YUSA Call for Volunteers Bargaining Awareness & PLanning

Sick Leave for Dependents

The Employer wants to limit your ability to easily care for your family!

What's at stake?

The right to use unlimited sick time to care for your dependents.

What is the Employer proposing?

The Employer wants to limit the number of sick days you can use to attend to a sick dependent to 10 days per year. If you need a longer leave, the Employer expects you to instead request an unpaid leave of absence under Article 20.

What can I do?

  • Start a conversation with your colleagues
  • ASK YOUR FELLOW YUSA MEMBERS: Do you know your rights around sick leave and using it to care for your dependents?
  • SAY NO to limits placed on your sick leave to care for your dependents.

DID YOU KNOW? The burden of caregiving still falls mainly on women, and disproportionately on racialized (im)migrant women who may not have the family support mechanisms for alternate care. The Employer’s proposal to decimate your ability to take paid time off to look after your children and your loved ones is an affront to the progress that women have made and the rights everyone has gained!
